about

Tri-Lite, Volume Two.

Ring Taw is the second album in a trilogy of LPs called "Tri-Lite," which all contain song titles taken from the nicknames of marbles that people collected in decades past. While Tri-Lite Volume One (Lucky Taw) was a comedy album focusing on science fiction, silliness and superheroes, Volume Two stands in stark contrast with darker subject matter and supernatural settings.

Almost every song on Ring Taw is sung from the perspective of a different unlucky narrator who has fallen madly in love with a dangerous person. Whether she's a sadistic witch (Cat's Eye) or he's a narcissistic stage magician (Mica), this album focuses on the most deadly form of unrequited love. Ring Taw also has recurring themes of mysticism, myth and mystery.

This FREE album is best classified as psychedelic art pop, full of trippy sonic landscapes blended with unusual subject matter and colorful synths. Fans of Animal Collective or the Fiery Furnaces will love this album!

Track Name: Spiral
Let me tell you these cautionary tales
Of mystic malice, longing and lore.
The love you feel for dangerous souls
And the spiral hypnosis that sinks to your core.

Tri-Lite Volume Two.
Track Name: Cat's Eye
If it hadn't been for my dietitian
I never would have met her
my deficiencies had sent me snooping
at the "Spirit Vitamin Shop"

She had those green mint leaf tattoos
and a scarf of some kind of faux fur
I lost my will to live without her
the second she offered a drop.

As I sipped she brushed her bangs aside
and revealed that feline green line
one taste of her scent
and I couldn't stop.

Now I can't see through darkness
like I used to
with the girl with the cat's eye.

Now I can't see the colors
now my tongue is dry
without the girl with the cat's eye.

I still yearn for the good old days
cross-legged inside her tent
the one with the holes punched in shapes
of stars.

We touched tips to knuckles and
sang eerie chants under lights
sparse and spotty and hot
the hexes she taught me
tossed hot stones in my heart.

The panels in her eyes
reflected her mischief
of a sinister salivary gland
our bones bending like bars.

Now I can't see through darkness
like I used to
with the girl with the cat's eye.

Now I can't see the colors
now my tongue is dry
without the girl with the cat's eye.

How did she replace her pupils
with the wicked pit slit of a cat.
I don't know what it was about her
that made me fall for something like that.
I can't see her again,
can't risk the hitch of witchcraft.
I still hear her hissing
like she tasted my tears and laughed.

Now I can't see through darkness
like I used to
with the girl with the cat's eye.

Now I can't see the colors
now my tongue is dry
without the girl with the cat's eye.
Track Name: Jasper
Hide when the room service comes,
I can't risk your face and I want it for myself.
I know we can't spend till the end of time
living at the Marriott Hotel.

But hey!
As long as we can pamper through,
I feel like I've won the lot.
Don't like to fight but I'll throw down for you,
oh, Jasper, Jasper.

Teach me your scissor kick.
Protect me from the world.
Oh, teach me your roundhouse kick
and I'll protect your innocence.

I'd seen so many faces at the front desk
a marching order of men I'd never know.
All reminders of empty memories yet to grow.

Till you showed up,
looking for a safe place to stay,
all bloody and brawny.
I don't like to run but I'll race with you
till the end of the ring, Jasper.
Jasper.

Teach me your strong right hook
and I'll keep you off the books
safe from the crooked bookies
if you'll keep me against your chest.

Jasper I know you didn't throw that fight.

It's a miracle we've made it this far...
the stunt they think you pulled,
the stunt we're pulling now.
If they ever find you I'll turn them away
or else give my life for you,
I hope it won't ever come to that
but I want you to know that I love you.

Teach me your scissor kick. (Teach me to fight!)
Protect me from the world.
Oh, teach me your roundhouse kick
and I'll protect your innocence.

Teach me your strong right hook
and I'll keep you off the books
safe from the crooked bookies
if you'll keep me against your chest.
Track Name: Toothpaste
The twists of crimson in her hair
Drew my eyes from across the crowd.
Her smile soaked up the stage lights
While the music stoked loud.

She stayed the night and made the mistake of
Leaving behind her cinnamon toothpaste.
She took mine instead
and hers had quite a burning taste.

Deep in the middle of the night
I felt that I needed to see her again.
So I called her to come get her toothpaste
And her only question then was “When?”

But then she spoke these cryptic words:

"Don’t forget to waste the paste in the wake of mistakes
The taste of saved face has traces of the venom of a snake."

The next time I saw her I was all in to fall for her
All because she left her toothpaste behind.
There was something inside that had salted my bloodstream.
And now I can’t get her out of my mind.

She told me to keep it, she didn’t care.
Because she'd only come back for me.
And in the pincers of passion her kisses grew vicious
Till skin on my neck came to bleed.

But then she disappeared with a wipe of her lip
And a clear insincere apology.
Leaving me all alone for another night
Contemplating our compatible astrology.

And her words rang through my head:

"Don’t forget to waste the paste in the wake of mistakes
The taste of saved face has traces of the venom of a snake."

The very next day I went looking for her,
At the concert hall where we met.
I asked around briefly and soon tracked her down
Nearly as desperate as you can get.

To my relief she was happy to see me
She invited me to meet her friends.
In an old record store without any power
Full of candles and burning incense.

"Don’t forget to waste your time
Life is far too long and too steep to climb
Don’t bother looking for primes
Life is encrypted with shatterproof paradigms."

We listened to turntables rippling back time
And she told me I was hers to keep.
When she asked me to spend my eternity with her,
That's when I knew I was in too deep.

But I gave my consent for the “Scarlet Ceremony”
By then her blood had soaked in through my gums.
She sank her teeth in, I joined her and the damned
As black hooded figures all circled and hummed.

"Don’t forget to waste your time
Life is far too long and too steep to climb
Don’t bother looking for primes
Life is encrypted with shatterproof paradigms."
Track Name: Mica
Well I remember the first act he did,
he a(POOF)ppeared in a pink cloud.
Sort of like the gray one floating in my head,
a(POOF)fraid to say my feelings out loud.

And with a snap of Tesla thunder
my filaments were split asunder,
he filled my mind with wonder,
afraid my heart would blunder.

Well I saw Mica put a person in a trance,
twice, if you count me.
He took out my core right through the fragile skin,
like he did to those apple seeds.

And with a glow of phosphorous,
my hopes got lost for us.
The ticket price is the cost of trust
that our paths will cross. They must.

Some say I swoon over superstition
but I'll gladly match eyes with his magic vision,
cause you see I've been run-through before,
but no trick sword leaves you this sore.

But he restored my condition,
my soft heart whole for the magician.
Mica unlink the rings now,
pull me right out of this magical veil.

On my second night as a stage hand,
he turned flames into flowers.
But before they could be mine
they turned into glass by his powers.

And as they hit the floor
I expected that glass to break.
But the glass stayed intact in fact
and the stage started to quake.

Well I expected he'd pull a rabbit or an ace
or a dove or a diamond out of his hat.
All I wanted, some kind of straight heart flush,
but what I got was a joker or rat in its place.

By the time I was assisting him
he'd only grown more astounding.
I vanished through a magical box,
my invisible veins still pounding.

Some say I swoon over superstition
but I'll gladly match eyes with his magic vision,
cause you see I've been run-through before,
but no trick sword leaves you this sore.

But he restored my condition,
my soft heart whole for the magician.
Mica unlink the rings now,
pull me right out of this magical veil.

Oh Mica, how I'd like ya to give me what I need,
but your collapsible sword ensured I'll never bleed.
Oh Mica, how I'd ya to give me what I'm cravin,
but your little trap door ensures you'll never cave in.

I know they can't all be illusions,
how else could Mica cast this spell on me?

Some say I swoon over superstition
but I'll gladly match eyes with his magic vision,
cause you see I've been run-through before,
but no trick sword leaves you this sore.

But he restored my condition,
my soft heart whole for the magician.
Mica unlink the rings now,
pull me right out of this magical veil.
Track Name: Ribbon Core
I've been told dragons have some kind of ribbon core
inside their bones,
and if you extract it I've heard you can suck
the sultans from their thrones--
the blood-silk thrones.

But since it's never that easy
I hoped you'd settle for me alone.
All alone.

I can plunge to the deepest trenches,
where sea-serpents sneeze tsunamis.
I could scale up to a snowy peak
where fire-breathers have to blow
the bellows of the flaming sun.

I'll try to mix this thick elixir
to twist a trick on the royal sister
stir it up to fix your pick of the prince galore.
Choose the suitor who knows you to your core.

To your ribbon core.

Well I've been told if you mix marrow with moss
from the mumbling marsh,
the moss will make emotions
(the mixture will make some emotions
and you'll finally come to your senses
and see I'm the one).
"Get a dash of rose hips
and the spit from the prince for the potion."

And if you drink from this goblet,
it'll put your love in motion.
Or should I have tried a lotion?

But I can't fly to the spears by the stars
where wing-flaps force the phases of the moon,
or slice through jungles that the lizards spun
to make their giant nest.
So I'll put trust in my charm alone
and hope for the best.

I'll try to mix this thick elixir
to twist a trick on the royal sister
stir it up to fix your pick of the prince galore.
Choose the suitor who knows you to your core.
Track Name: Glass Aggie
And I've seen her face in the frost of my mirror,
and when the lights go out
her features come clearer.

The lore of the manor says she died in the bath,
and I've seen her joining the smoke
at the cemetery path.

I don't know why you're here,
I only know I fear feelings
not far off from love.

Glass Aggie
Glass Aggie,
feel your memory in my skin.
Glass Aggie
Glass Aggie,
whisper to me and I'll let you in.

Well somedays she sings through
the keyholes and trees.
She watches my dreams
and she puts goosebumps on knees.

Well sometimes in sadness
she'll vanish and banish for days.
But dancing she will return
in the quake of a candle or vase.

I don't know many things
but I still know your name.
I only know what I love.

Glass Aggie
Glass Aggie,
moves like the steam of liquified crystal.
Glass Aggie
Glass Aggie,
fragile in death but she's now invincible.

Agatha, I'm sorry
I couldn't be there.
You were drowning before
I had a mouth for prayer.

Decades may part us
but why should we care?
I'll just keep waiting
for the brush of your hair.

Glass Aggie
Glass Aggie,
feel your memory in my skin.
Glass Aggie
Glass Aggie,
whisper to me and I'll let you in.

Glass Aggie
Glass Aggie,
moves like the steam of liquified crystal.
Glass Aggie
Glass Aggie,
fragile in death but she's now invincible.

When I'm within twelve lightyears of you
years go at lightspeed
and you light up my years my years
and you light up my years.

It's like the universe is speaking in verse
or singing monotone poetry,
flat-lined like you leave me
flat-lined like you leave me.

I hope it wasn't painful,
hope someone is shameful.
Wish I could have been there to hold you.
I hope the other side is something peaceful,
hope that you can hear me when I call.
I wish that we could touch.

Just know you won't be alone
once I join you.
Track Name: Opaque Opals
It was the neon lights that caught my eye
The lime-lit letters said “Psychic Readings.”
I sat with her, dressed blue and gold
Gave her my hand, palm up and pleading.
She peeled back my carbon black
To expose the life I was deeply needing

She told me of a future filled with fortune
My pain and poverty would blow over soon.
All I needed was a boost of good luck
So she sang me this teller’s tune:

“Take these opaque opals
They’ll bring you the blessings you seek.
Keep the gems with you always.
They’ll work their mystique

Take these opaque opals
They’ll give you love
They’ll give you hope."

I wasn’t sure the jewels could help
What sort of favor could these opals bring?
I’d gone my whole life without a victory
Hadn’t earned myself a single thing
But I promised her every dime I had
As soon as I heard her sing.

I told her I’d return with a check each week
To pay off the inheritance of the meek.
The debt was worth the payoff of the charms
For the chance of someday holding her in my arms.

“Take these opaque opals
They’ll bring you the blessings you seek.
Keep the gems with you always.
They’ll work their mystique

Take these opaque opals
They’ll give you love
They’ll give you hope."

She’s the girl of my dreams
Or so I hope, and so it seems
When she interprets my nightmares
She’s the savior that I see.

Before I met her I never thought
That I’d find true love again.
But my fortune teller gave me her word,
There’d be another heart for me to find.

Soon I’ll have the life that I deserve,
When the opals make the riches fall.
Once my luck turns around
I’ll be the man she'll see in her crystal ball.

“Take these opaque opals
They’ll bring you the blessings you seek.
Keep the gems with you always.
They’ll work their mystique

Take these opaque opals
They’ll give you love
They’ll give you hope."

She’s the girl of my dreams
Or so I hope, and so it seems
When she interprets my nightmares
She’s the savior that I see.
Track Name: Onionskin
It goes to show you never really know
who the one you love will turn out to be.
some people salvage some pearl that’s lost at sea
but I’m the one who wonders if I’ve fallen for a villain,
who I thought was my life force may take away my breath
this cunning culinary maestro may in fact be Death.

Something’s laced inside the onionskin
I think I saw her spike the white sangria
Something’s stuck inside the spice and rice
Just like my head is struck with this insidious idea.

Who is she?
Couldn’t tell you, but she’s who I love.

I started out as her server
Bringing bugs and beasts
To the crystalline aristocrats
A feeder to the leaders
Who would pay for famous game.

When the ambassador passed the week after last
I grew a tad suspicious.
When I saw the sous chef slip the strychnine
In the centipede soup, I knew.

She was in the teeth of the grief of the city,
Paid by the plot to turn the politicians to rot.
And boil the plague of every big shot that’s bought.
Or so they thought.

I confronted her inside the kitchen while she cooked cocoa beetles.
Asked her bout the assassination and if her recipes would excrete ills.

She just kissed me against the rotisserie
Then instructed me to prepare the libations.
But that night I saw her mixing up a poisonous dish
Crushing up toxic wasps in the senator’s fish.

Poison inside the onionskin
You’d better watch out what you pick from the specials.
Though the samples make look ample, you'll be dining with devils.
Though the caterpillar potstickers may look plump and piquant
a garnish of foxglove is the chef’s guarded secret.

So I cashed my latest paycheck and I took it to the strip mall
where the candy maker makes a medicine that can close any pitfall
to cure any poisons that my lover had amassed.

Little multicolored capsules in vials of glass.
So I started leaving them as candy with dessert.
If the cook had been hired I didn't want them hurt.

Poison in the onion
Its skin will do you in.
Toxins in the onionskin
So don’t just dig in.

Poison in the onion
Its skin will do you in.
Toxins in the onionskin
So don’t just dig in.

I knew she'd stop loving me if I kept messing with her recipes.
But weeks later no one else had died.
Only leaving with their stomachs full and a joy in their eyes.
But I couldn't go on saving these lives.

One day she called me into the meat freezer
and kissed me smack-dab on the shivering lips.
I dared to ask her to marry me
my fingers trembling into her hips.
But she just smiled at me
and told me to try her new butterfly chips.

She kissed me one final time
as I stumbled into the ice chest.
That's when she shook my candy vial
stolen from my vest.

And then she whispered to me,
"I would have said yes."
The freezer faded away
as I sank into a rest.
Track Name: Oxblood
The sun is drumming the tundra,
snow is dusting up the dune,
birds are breaking the thunder,
bugs are chewing on the moon.

No one goes alone into the wild,
no one finds a bone alone, my child.

Well I see him crouching in the brush,
war paint on his chest,
club of stone prepped to crush.
My heart, like his kill, arrests.

He's the iron hunter,
the one the others fear.
He makes my guts fossilize,
my bones disappear.

Out in the wilderness cold
drum circles pump our blood,
and I watch his stories get told
as we wait for the river to flood.

He's the mighty fire,
the one who feeds the tribe.
A seasoned warrior.
And as he has yet to sire,
I'll make his bloodlines imbibe.

I'll smear a cup of oxblood
across the stones of the signal fire.
The smoke it makes will give me strength
to enchant the one I desire.

He's the one who's dangerous,
all the others dare to say.
He's the master ranger. Thus,
he's my target prey.

I smear a cup of oxblood,
across the flesh of my face.
To make him see I am a hunter,
show him that he needs a taste.

He's the one who's dangerous,
all the others dare to say.
He's the master ranger. Thus,
he's my target prey.

The last woman who he was with
made head of the pack.
She followed him into battle,
but I'll return with spoils on my back.

With his hand and the head of cattle,
the fruits of forever in my sack.
Steal up a field of chattel,
and every meal will yield to our attack.

I'll fasten up a lasso
and rake up a pitfall.
He's strong enough to break the lash, so
I'll make my trap invincible.

Scout out the perfect shelter,
sticks and stones to make our home.
When comes the summer swelter
through the jungle free we'll roam.

I smear a cup of oxblood,
across the flesh of my face.
To make him see I am a hunter,
show him that he needs a taste.

He's the one who's dangerous,
all the others dare to say.
He's the master ranger. Thus,
he's my target prey.

I'll smear a cup of oxblood
across the stones of the signal fire.
The smoke it makes will give me strength
to enchant the one I desire.

He's the one who's dangerous,
all the others dare to say.
He's the master ranger. Thus,
he's my target prey.

Cut the ruddy guts, rainy vein
drain it to tame it and stain the plain blade,
came in by naming, training the same
as I brained the glades it made its way
like we pray to, splayed
fileted in grains and glazed to spray
the rope in the hay is starting to fray
prey that were grazing are getting away
cut it, but not its rotten spots
or something worth a trade,
he's squatting and nodding
by the trotting brigade
he played it right and hot as daylight
the pot will be displayed
with the skull of the ox engraved
till the hair of my locks turn gray
stash the dread of the clocks away

Don't move,
I'll wet the oxblood on you
with a brush of buds.
Don't move,
let me cut you and soothe,
when mine bleeds through.

Do you hear it?
We're near our echoes,
though you've yet to hear or speak.
Do you hear it?
Our voice shot through
the comet stars.

Save me from the wildfires,
save me from the vile liars,
save me from the lurking fangs,
save me from the working pangs.

I'll save you from the howling demons there,
Save me from the prowling cretins here,
I'll save you from the chew of splinters bare,
Save me from the flu of winter's snare.
Track Name: Pearl
He'd gone and waited 18 years
to find that treasure map right to the girl of his dreams.
Well he'd had enough of grating gears,
it was time to pry out that girl from the seams.

There was a legend from the ocean
of a pearl at the bottom of the blackest of seas.
Somewhere inside of the calcified port side
he'd rescue the woman in the form of a bead.

Most today never heard the maritime words.
He knew she's a story but can't stop
his adoring her.

Somewhere beneath a sea monster's teeth
there's a soul entombed in a beautiful womb.
Trapped there by a mystical captor
she's waiting in gloom from the bravest of grooms.

By the word of the whirlpool if you take her to shore,
the form of a girl should her body restore.

A lifetime of labor bought him a fishing boat
which he towed to the coastline
and onto the waves.
A deathbed sailor wrote him a tissue note,
coordinates recorded by men in their graves.

Many had tried to find the spot where she lied,
but those who returned so far brought nothing but weeds.
He was convinced that no man had dove since
with the love of his heart or the fire it bleeds.

Month after month he sailed the current in vain,
till the surface was stirring a drain--the throat
of a hurricane.

Somewhere below a sea monster's toe
there's an angel ensnared in a polished pierre.
Lost in the chasms under the gallons and fathoms
she's waiting alone to be set free from the stone.

By the word of the sea captains if you touch it to air,
the girl in the seed, captured, will no longer be neckwear.

He was scooped up from the rubble
by a sympathetic corsair who found him floating there.
The crew of grizzled criminals
showed him all the minerals purloined,
and his share.

If he vowed to voyage with them
they would split the riches pilfered all
across the world.
The only treasure he would never
sever from the finger of the captain
was the pearl.

The pearl, encrusted.
His eyes couldn't be trusted.
It had to be. But it couldn't be.
The pirate found the pearl.
But without love, there's no girl.

He made the deal and planned to steal
the captain's golden ring when he was deep
in his sleep.
Not the first night or the second
but if he gained their trust he reckoned
he had earned his keep.
He'd sneak into the private quarters,
past the snoring pirate hoarders
and slide it off the hand.
But just as his stars always are,
his lucky ones were far too far away
to go as planned.

The pearl, encrusted.
His eyes couldn't be trusted.
It had to be. But it couldn't be.
The pirate found the pearl.
But without love, there's no girl.

He woke up with salt in his cuts,
blood making cake in the sand.
Clung to an empty chest
and washed up onto land.

He stumbled over crumbled shells
and found his way to the town,
looking for a boat to rent
to track the pirates down.

Instead he found a jewelry shop
with seashells glazed and junk galore.
Never in his hunting years
had he seen such worthless wares.
But a girl behind the counter
rushed to wrap his injuries,
nursed him back to health
and housed him in her barn.

He stayed with her, combed the beaches
for some trinkets to be sold.
He never saw that pearl again but somehow
she was his to hold.
If by chance he found that ring
he'd ditch the pearl and keep the gold
and give it to a real girl
the one he found behind the counter.
At least to him, it's the greatest story told.
Track Name: Devil's Eye
She heard by word of mouth
My services as a stonecutter
And commissioned me for a statue
To sit outside her shutters.

My granite gargoyles
Would guard her from the spirits
And come alive to fend off evil
So she wouldn’t have to fear it.

Then she asked me where I got my talent
And I told her a lie.
I left out that my skill as a sculptor
Came from the Devil’s Eye.

I peered into a searing ring of vermillion
Gazed into a demon’s dark.
I sold it to him like the burning billions
Now I’m branded by his mark.

And now I fear she may love me
For more than protecting her estate
An old widow falling for a man
With a sealed and scalding fate.

Is it wrong to spend the time I’ve got remaining
With this woman that I want to save?
Knowing that if we both bind our souls together,
It’ll bring her down beneath the grave?

And if my body still contained a conscience
I’d cast the lady away
Curse her name to shield her spirit.
But instead I ask her to stay.

I peered into a searing ring of vermillion
peered into a demon’s dark
I sold it to him like the burning billions
Now I’m branded by his mark

And I think I love her too
And I’m not sure what to do
I wish I met her long before
She could have helped me to restore

As our love grows stronger, so does the beast
Expanding in my marrow
The deadline draws ever nearer, and every day I see
Black shadows of a sparrow.

Soon he’ll have control of me
And she’ll be his to take
When I made this deal I believed
I was the only one to forsake.

When I brought her to my chambers
She saw the color of my eyes
He was filling the pipes of them
And lusting for her demise.

I could only watch as he used my voice
And made my knees drop to a bow
Proposing marriage but secretly
Offering a damning vow.

But before she spoke her answer
I saw it with my devil’s eye,
My stone creatures broke into the chamber
Using fractured wings to fly.

They ripped my hands far away from hers
And unleashed their crackling claws
She tried her best to come and save me
But couldn’t pry apart their jaws.

As I watched her crying over me,
I felt a moment of brief relief.
They’d done their duty: they’d guarded my lady
At least she’d be safe in grief.
Track Name: Clambroth
Prepare the poison for the clambroth ritual.
Choose them, infuse them.
No souls left residual.

Gather the children,
pour in the candle wax.

Our love for the founders
is grounded in the clay.
Crumble it in the clambroth.
Everything's okay.

We're calling up the spirits of the founders;
lovers sworn to save us from this world.
Her passion and his power come surround us
until the ancient secrets are unfurled.

He and she
had us carried
to the cremation
of our corroded hearts
now, that's when they claimed us as their children
and cleared the cobwebs
out of our crimes.
And this is why we praise their names.

for the clambroth ritual.
Cradle the ladle.
Our customs habitual.

Gather the children,
pour in the candle wax.

We're calling up the spirits of the founders;
lovers sworn to save us from this world.
Her passion and his power come surround us
until the ancient secrets are unfurled.

He and she
had us carried
to the cremation
of our corroded hearts
now, that's when they claimed us as their children
and cleared the cobwebs
out of our crimes.
And this is why we praise their names.

Let us recite the forgotten text
and form up this fragrant spell.
Bless all our fingers inside the foam
and crack open all the shells,
crack open all the clam shells.

Life is an insect
tiny to the core.
But our skeletons can only grow
as our oxygen is restored.

People were made easy to crush
but harder on the larger scale.
Once Earth is nuked with evil and greed
the stepped on will prevail.
The downtrodden will prevail.

Love is a cryptic,
a creature shrugged away.
It's all fuzzy photography
and bones made of paper mache.

The only love we need is the founders'.
They can make us new lives.
One without sorrow
one without pain,
one where the oxygen fills up our brains,
one without sadness
one without strain,
one where the clambroth flows through our veins.

Mark the quarter moon
Mark the quarter moon
Mark the quarter moon
Mark the quarter moon

The clambroth soup concocted
will turn celestial soon
when our souls run away with the spoon.
